Hospitality runs deep in the life of Silvia Cambray.
Born in Buenos Aires to a hard working Spanish mother & Italian father, Silvia learned to cook and was making family meals at a young age. She understood early on that one’s home was a meeting place to share good food, friendship and life’s experiences around the table with others.
Growing up in Toronto and multilingual, (Spanish, Italian, French and English), she decided she wanted to become a French teacher and majored in languages at the University of Toronto. She went to France to further study the language at the University of Tours, and later attended U of T’s summer school language program in St. Pierre & Miquelon. There, she met and married her first love and settled down to have a family.
She joined the tourism industry on the island, and spent many years managing a travel agency, tour company and hotels. Following the sudden death of her husband at a young age, she moved with her children to Toulouse, France, where she earned a degree in Small Business Management.
With Martine, a divorced friend, she planned to buy and convert a house into an inn, but the banks wouldn’t invest. She returned to St. Pierre & Miquelon to sell her home, only to meet and fall in love with her husband, Chef Sebastien Schwab.
Together, they ran a successful restaurant there for many years, and another one later in Halifax. With aging parents, Silvia and Sebastien decided to move to Ontario in 2009 and discovered Prince Edward County. She worked with Sebastien at Angeline’s Inn and later, at Cherryvale Organic Farm. Silvia returned to school and graduated as a Holistic Nutritionist and Reiki Master. Today, she runs a successful consulting and Reiki practice, in addition to The Mystic Dandelion Bed & Breakfast.
